Touch provides reassurance and anxiety reduction in stressful situations. While a pat on the back or a touch on the arm may seem like small, everyday gestures that many of us take for granted, they are often far more important than we realize. in which Fury is also Ray Arnold from Jurassic Park and then recruits Tim Murphy??
“So how exactly did Fury lose his eye?” Tony asks Maria, leaning back in his borrowed seat and trying to steal a pen from her station. She smacks his hand away and frowns down at him.
“It was about twenty years ago, that’s all I know,” Maria says. “Some project SHIELD was monitoring went wrong and he got caught in the crossfire.”
Tim has seen Ray — Nick, he reminds himself — a few times since Jurassic Park, but only ever in passing. Lexi had been recruited to SHIELD right out of college, to no one’s surprise but her own, and Tim had gone off and joined the marines for lack of any other life plan, so sometimes they happen to run into each other.
He’s having a drink at a bar in New York when Fury sits down next to him and says, “Good to see you, Tim.”
“Sir,” Tim says automatically, straightening.”Didn’t expect to see you here.”
“I came to find you,” Fury says. “I assume you’ve heard of SHIELD’s new pet project.”
“The Avengers? Who hasn’t?” Tim sips at his drink and eyes Fury. “Why?”
“I thought you might be interested in joining us,” Fury says.
It takes Tim a moment to understand what Fury means, and then he raises his eyebrows. “Sir, I’m just a marine.”
“You’re also one of the smartest, most resourceful kids I know,” Fury says. “And we could use your expertise. We have a…situation brewing on in the Florida Keys.”
Tim smiles slowly.
